Oh man

A few months ago I got some really cool shoes. For free. Cus my BFF Kissy knows I love shoes. The are a skoosh too big, and have a ver , very raised platform type bottom. My MIL is the cheapest person int eh world and so she approved both of the shoes and the price.

She went on to say that they will be awesome for when it snows becuase I will be so high off the ground in them.

This is very laughable becuase I feel I should take out life insurance wearing them on a sunny dry day, much less on an icy cold winter day.

I wonder if I can take out life insurance even? I don't have a job, per say, maybe I can take it out on the bases of my home. Isn't there some kind of mortgage life insurance? My dad and mom had a really cool type of insurance. They took out life insurance in June, Bought a home the same time, In September she got sick and she dies in February. The insurance they had taken out paid off all out standing debts, even their mortgage, which really helped my dad out!

Do you have life insurance?

Pee ess: It snowed today. First time of the year. I am so sad

The stress of Getting a mortgage

When we got our house almost two years ago, it was very stressful. We applied for a pre approved mortgage, mainly because we needed to know our limit before we started house hunting. We learned many things, such as what benefits are available with First Time Buyer Mortgage.

We also learnt, the hard way, how important good credit is when applying for a mortgage. About six years before we applied for our mortgage we used a store credit card to purchase a high end item. It took us a long time to pay it off, because we had to pay a little at a time, but eventually we paid it off and celebrated.

Unfortunately, for some reason when the company we had gotten the credit through shut down, they did not shut down our card and we had eleven cents interest owing on the card. The bank looked at this a a big black mark and we were almost denied our mortgage!

Be really sure you have all of your things in order before applying for a mortgage, it is way less stressful!

Halloween cometh

It is now the 21st of October. In ten days the children will be roaming the streets shouting for candy and dancing in their skin.

Stuperman was sick last year and so this will be the first time he will go trick or treating and know what he is doing. He is going as a monkey.Stuperman is so tiny that the costume his oldest brother wore at 2 is large enough for him to wear with his snow suit on under it.

Blue boy is going to be a dinosaur again becuase the costume still fits. He isn't very happy about it, but as he doesn't have a choice I think he will put it on when the day comes. It's either that or he will be staying home and handing out candy with me.

Rainbow Man, as the oldest and the one who seems to grow the most, usually gets a new costume every year. Last year it was a seven dollar sword, I made the rest, and he went as a pirate. This year we searched online and decided that the Mummy costume sounded the coolest (to him) and the easiest (to me).

We cut up a billion strips of white and tan and off white fabric remnants, the smaller ones I sewed together, and we will spend a few hours on the 31st tying him up in strips of cloth!

Should be interesting. I will be sure to take pictures!

A long long time ago...

About seven years ago, my husband worked as a chef in a restaurant. Chef is just a nice word for cook. He worked the late hours, from four till close, and I would often take our infant son to coffee with me where my husband would meet us after work.

One night, close to midnight, he walked in with a big ice cream pail full of ice. His hand was buried in it and he kept saying, S'OK, I'm fine, but he clearly wasn't.

You see, while I don;t know a lot about skin, i DO know it should be on us rather than floating around in the rapidly melting ice.

It seems that some one called for an order of Fingers (chicken fingers) and my husband took them literally, and stuck his hand up to the wrist in a deep fryer.*

It took a while for me and the people with us at coffee to convince my husband he might want to go to the hospital and have his skinless hand looked at. Eventually, he agreed.

Turns out he had second and third degree burns from wrist to fingertips. The ER techs spent a lot of time peeling off the dead and crispy skin and then covered his hand in cream, bandaged it and sent him home with pain pills and orders to return the next day to get more dead skin peeled off.

If the dead skin stays on, you really increase your chance of infection.

We had to go back and forth to the hospital for about two weeks as they peeled and picked at his hand, but it was like a Miracle burn - he was left with NO scarring what-so-ever! The doctor was amazed at how fast he had healed first of all, but he was more astounded at the lack of scaring as he had burned in places to the muscle.

I'm very glad he healed with no problems, and it still makes me giggle to say deep fryer and watch him go pale.

*Actually, that's just a joke he tells, what really happened is he had been cleaning the deep fryer with a metal pole thingy but had grabbed the wrong pole, it was shorter one, and when he pushed it in, his hand went in as well.
