My inlaws are getting the newspaper from a friend who is on vacation. Every morning they bring it over to my place - in fact, my father in law just brought todays paper to me.
While there are a lot of ways to read local news online, I do love the paper - not enough to get a subscription though!
A few days ago I read an article in the paper. In the spring of 2007, due to a problem with the cities NOT THE HOMEOWNERS drainage, a bunch of peoples houses were flooded - with sewage.
The city has fixed the problem, the home owners insurance has paid for the fix, and it will not happen again.
The problem is that now the home owners who were flooded - through no fault of their own, who have a written letter from the city for insurance providers explaining about why the flooding happened and what has been done to ensure it does not happen again- the home owners cannot get insurance.
No one, not even SGI, the government owned insurance company will give them coverage.
For some, this is a scary problem, they are not covered from theft, fire, nothing, for others it is even more of an issue.
When we got our mortgage one of the clauses is that we carry home owners insurance on the house. If the insurance lapses, our home will be foreclosed.
I can understand that the companies do not like to pay out to fix things, but they are getting monthly or yearly payments to cover the things they fix. Also, the flooding will not happen again, there was a problem with the city and its inability to deal with spring run off. Its fixed. its done.
At the very least, the insurance companies ought to give them coverage for everything but flood - after all they are refusing them on the grounds of the flood, so why not give them the rest?
I think they are just being cheap bastards and I hope like hell nothing happens to the home owners while their houses are uninsured!

oh man plus le sigh
So it is quite obvious I love me some coffee. But lately? Coffee hasn't been tasting so good. I dunno if it is my coffee pot or me, but it seems that half an hour after I brew a pot the coffee tastes Super Burnt. AKA it sucks.
It's not as though I am asking the pot to make me a Jura capresso, is it?
I kind of wonder if it doesn't have something to do with this:
About two weeks ago, I went to turn the pot back on, it has a two hour shut off timer, which is the reason we bought it, we can never EVER remember to turn off the pot. The night I went to turn it back on, the button would not depress. It was broken!
I took it to my in-laws, three doors down, grabbed a new coffee pot from their storage room, and left my broken one for my FIL to fix.
Two days later, the coffee pot was back on my cupboard, button fixed, but ever since then... the strange saga of burning coffee has started..
I just can't win, can I?

That's it! I've had enough!
Starting today I am going back on the LOW to NO carb diet. When I was on it last time I lost ten lbs in a month (YAY) I went off it becuase I was craving bread so badly. Once I fell off the wagon so to speak, I never climbed back on.
In addition. On Tuesdays and Thursdays - I only have the baby - I will do that stupid exercise tape while the baby has his bath - Baby is almost four, he is safe in the tub alone so stfu pls.
I'm tired of the excuses I give myself. Now it's time to act.

Mourn With me
Last night as I went to fill my cup with wonderful hot coffee, I noticed that the light on the pot was off. This is not a big deal, the coffee pot has a two hour timer for safety reasons.( It shuts off automatically after two hours.)
I pushed the ON button to turn it back on, but nothing happened. Well, thats not true. The button did not push in when I pushed it, which IS something, and that something told me
ACKKKKKKKK BROKEN COFFEE POT!!!!RUN !!! PANIC IN THE STREETS!!! THE WORLD IS ENDING!
or uhm something like that...
Luckily I was able to divert disaster by calling my mother in law who is a hoarder of all things big and small. I recalled her telling me coffee pots had gone on sale a while back and she bough three of them. Nine at night And I was over there begging for a new coffee pot.
I am always so amused when I go int heir basement storage room, Jumbo size tins of coffee - a lifetimes supply. Dog treats when they have no dog, ten huge packages of socks, each holding enough pairs to cover a twenty feet, there was even a set of Nike golf clubs. That one made me laugh out loud because neither of them golf.

My Car Sucks
We have a 96 Ford Taurus with almost 400k on it. It used to be white, but now it is rather rust colored. The Check Engine light keeps coming on and worst of all, the weather striping on the door has shrink so I get rain and freezing wind in on MY side. Add in the fact that it guzzles gas faster than my baby guzzles milk and you will soon realize it is cheaper to buy a new car than to try and fix all the existing problems in our crappy car!
With CarsBLVD.com I can get Honda Car Quote, or any other make of car. In fact, I can get two quotes at wholesale prices by letting dealers compete for your business!
Best of all? Its FAST and Free!

OMGKILLME
Today has been a day from hell. Put the horrendous computer issues I have been having together with the kids being little PITA's and you have me with my brain wanting to explode.
I had to take the middle one to the dentist, his gums were swollen and ouchy looking on the top - turns out he has FOUR canker sores! Of course the baby wanted a toy from the dentist, but they are really strict about "If you don't sit in the chair you do not get a toy" so he screamed until we got home and I distracted him with one of his own toys! The middle boy - the one who DID sit int he chair choose a sticky hand which is currently stuck on the roof.
I am waiting on some family to stop by and cursing the computer as I watch the clock.
now I think I have my computer issues all worked out - fingerscrossedreallytightly - so maybe, MAYBE my afternoon will go better than my morning!

Bad decision
I very very rarely wear make up but yesterday for soem reason I did up my eyes, Eye Liner, mascara, the whole bit!
I had fun putting it on and I felt good wearing it, but when i hopped into my nightly bath it was like it was melting off me. In it's defense, my bath was pretty darn hot!.
BRB gonna make a cuppa tea.
Ok Back.
In any case last night my make up was running all over my face so when I got out of the bath I started to wash my face, like I always do, but I thought I would be smart and run soap just under my eyes, where most of the make up had dripped too.
Then I blinked.
The next half hour is a blur of water rinses and burning pain.
Don't get soap in your eyes people. We were taught that as kids and out eyes don't turn magically impervious to the nasty side effects of soap just becuase we age!

Oh Noes!
Call me slow, I don't care, but this JUST occurred to me.
What one earth do I do to keep Smokey out of the Christmas tree?
Yea, I have been posting up a storm about Christmas savings and Christmas Wish lists, but an image of Smokey trying to climb our tree had not once popped into my head!
We usually put our tree up the first Saturday of December, but this year? Could get risky!
There is no spot in my living room for me to put it where I can block it with a couch and a gate is just not practical. But then, having the dog eat the Christmas gifts isn't practical either!
I refuse to go without a tree. But I think maybe this year we will put it up on the 20th!
You have until then to give me tips on this matter.

Worry
I know that I often worry about silly things, things that make no sense. But today I am worried about my father in law. This summer he was helping a friend out and was up on a make shift scaffolding. It was stupid of him to be up there, but FIL has no idea how to NOT help when someone is in need.
He fell off the scaffolding, which can have major complications for someone in their late sixties, especially as FIL is on blood thinners becuase he has had a few strokes and is blind (from a stroke) in one eye.
When he fell, aside from massive bruising, you bruise really easily when on blood thinners, he hurt his shoulder. He was all tough and manly for about a month and then went to the doctors. He tore his rotary cuff. I think. Actually I am not sure what it was but he tore something that needs surgery to fix it.
At seven this morning he went into the hospital for his surgery. It is supposed to be routine, three small incisions, out before night fall, but with his heart problems, multiple strokes and thin blood, I can't help but worry about him. I wish I had thought to ask if he was going to be going under general anesthetic or local.
I will obviously update with a he is fine post when my worries amount to nil, but until then I will be sitting, and worrying about him.

Stupid Computer
No, wait I take that back, I meant to say Stupid Internet connection!
I am tired of having to wait three or four minutes for each page to load. Some times a page will load in seconds and the next time, it will take forever!
I know that in part it has to do with our cordless phone and our wireless router being on the same frequency, in fact if I get a phone call, the router has to be reset. But the phone is in my bedroom and hasn't rung for hours and the connection is still s l o w!
I think I am going to bu one of these 19.99 cordless phone set and see if it makes a difference, If it does then I will shell out the big bucks for a proper phone!

Ouch!
I have such a bad headache!
It's not a "real" headache though. It;s becuase I slept wrong and my neck is tense. When I get a headache it starts off small, like with a sore neck, but then it just keeps growing and growing and growing.
I'm pretty thankful I do not get migraines nor do I suffer from headaches more than ...sa once or twice a week, and usually I can make them go away with some Tylenol or Advil. I Pink Puffy Heart Advil.
Tonight we are going to the school Fun Night. We always have fun at fin night (lol) but I am worried that if I cannot get my headache under control by the time we leave, this will be the first year we do not have fun.
That saying when Momma is upset, everyone is upset? It's very very true in my house!
I'm going to go take an Advil. The Tylenol I took at lunch didn't do a damn thing!
If I remember to bring my camera tonight there will be pictures for y'all too look forward to later. Although I am not sure if they will be here or my picture blog, nor do I know how much work it will take to doctor the pics so that other people are not in them!

Gah! Show and tell!
In Kindergarten Show and Tell is a matter of bringing a stuffed animal or a picture. But Rainbow Man is Almost eight now, and he informs me today after school that for Show and tell tomorrow he will be bringing either his iPod or his Pokemon cards.
I don't want him to bring either! I think he should take a picture of his new puppy, but what do I know? I am just the mom!
Pee ess: He will NOT be bringing his iPod to school!

Cold Fx?
I keep hearing wondrous things about the medicine Cold FX. Have any of you tired it? According to the people I know here in town who have tired it, not only will it cure our cold but it will turn lead into gold, potty train a puppy in three minutes and make a clone to go to work for you.
I admit to being somewhat doubtful to the veracity of these peoples claims. But at the same time I am DAMN sick of this cold. So far I have an intermittent plugged/runny nose and the cough left.
But oh man guys, this cough is nasty. I can tell it isn't in my chest or lungs, so pneumonia is not a problem, but my stomach muscles (what little there are) are so sore, and I have to (sry tmi) clench to make sure I don't pee each time. To make matters worse, When I cough and cough and cough I feel sick to my stomach for hours afterwards.
I just wanna be better :o(

Oye Vey
The worst part of my day is, without fail, between five PM and seven thirty PM.
Between those times I have to get off my butt and decide whats for dinner, and I never feel like cooking so even once I decide what we are having its a challenge for me to do it.
Then I have to sit at the table and fight with the children to eat eat eat. Yes even the beans. Just EAT!
Then I have to get the oldest to do his homework, which is pretty hard becuase i cannot read his writing and can only go on what he says has to be done.
Sigh.
bathing the younger two is easy, but getting the seven ear old to wash every part of his body, not just soap up his man parts, is a challenge and a half.
The last half hour of the day is easy, the boys think teeth brushing is a treat not a chore and story time is alwyas relaxing.
But oe, getting from five to seven thirty? Every day it makes me want to scream!

Britney Spears Loses Custody of her Kids
I tried really hard to root for Britney. REALLY hard.
But watching her go get drunk the same night a judge tells her she has to stay sober, watching her drive the same day a judge tells her its illegal to drive without a Californian license, well, right now I am in the camp that says she deserves to lose her kids.
Maybe. Hopefully, If we all wish upon a little star This will be what snaps her out of her retardedness!

A First
This morning I laid on the couch wrapped in m new super soft blanket we bought just for laing on the couch with. I heard the boys alarm clock go off and sighed.
M throat is on fire and I don't wanna talk.
Then I heard the baby trying to open his door and I wanted to cry. My plan was to go back to bed after sending the kids to school.
Rainbow man made everyone breakfast, while I continued hiding in my new super soft blankie. Then he got himself and his brother dressed.
I dragged myself off the couch to make lunch for them and watched them pack their back packs.
ten minutes after the boys walked out the door I saw Rainbow Man's spelling homework - the homework he slaved over last night to get it perfect - on the floor. He must have pulled it out when he looked for his mittens and forgotten to put it back in.
This sucks.
This is his fourth year of school and we have never forgotten to return homework before - library books yes - but homework is always packed.
I hope he doesn't get in trouble.

Spider Update
Earlier this morning I wrote about a spider that had decided my kitchen ceiling fan would make him a nice winter home.
I do not recall putting out any for rent signs this fall, nor Do I recall him paying a deposit on his new room.
So I want him gone.
But should a woman alone be expected to deal with unsavory characters? I think it is perfectly understandable that I am leery of confronting this beast.
Becuase the children's safety is important, I decided to tackle this problem without a man present.
How brave am I?
Not very, as it turns out. I sprayed him with the hair spray, but he is still holed up in the hole. (lol) I'm not sure if he ended up glued inside it from the hairspray or if he is just smarter than I am.
I hope I killed him and his dead little bod is rotting in there. Despite the fact that he is directly over the dinner table and the way my luck runs he will fall into MY food.
What do you think? Is he Dead or Alive?

Well Crap
With fall here we can look forward to cool crisp air, and beautiful foliage. Unfortunately, fall also brings on the spiders. The little freaks are desperate to outlive the winter months and move indoors.
Have I mentioned that I am arachnophobia yet? There was an instance when I was seven - almost eight months pregnant when I climbed onto the top of a couch and up the side of some stair rails, all for a few millimeter long bug.
My sons are very aware of my fear of spiders.
"Mom. don't look up, just back way and I will get my hat" said my seven year old of his hat on the table.
Of course I DID look up. I DID scream, and the spider retreated to his hide hole. Now I have to wait him out.

When he emerges I will spray him with hairspray, which is the most effective spider stopper ever. It sticks their legs together making them sluggish enough that an badly co-ordinated three year old can kill them for their momma!

My little Heart Attacks
We live in a very small town. My in laws live on the same street as us. For the past year, we have allowed our children free range on our street.
They are not allowed to leave it. they know this rule. They follow this rule. Always.
Until today, when, for the first time, they decided to leave the street. And I had a heart attack.
A three and a five year old boy. Alone, and neither of them thought to bring a map.
After fifteen minutes of tears and fear (mine), we found them, six blocks from home.
Their excuse?

How Rude - (Say it like Stephanie Tanner)
So the day I have been waiting and waiting and waiting and WAITING for has come.
Tonight is the season premiere of Deal OR No Deal.
I'm not ashamed to admit that my biggest goal in life is to be on Deal OR No Deal. I would rahter go on DonD than hold the winning lotto ticket in my hand.
No Joke.
However. I hate. HATE. Donald Trump. I hate him with a passion. There is nothing about this man that I like. Srsly. HATE.
Guess who is playing the role of banker tonight on Deal Or No Deal?
Yup. You guessed right.
The Trump himself.
This sucks.
