Tonight at 5:45 we have PTI with Rainbow Man's teacher. This is our second "official" one, but His teacher and I talk VIA the daily planner, through emails and by phone several times a week.
I make it a point to schedule these official appointments for a time when Hubs can attend with me. I think he deserves to be involved with the schooling of our kids as much as possible. Generally, I am in charge of homework, depending on the subject. I find that even with third grade math I cannot do an adequate job explaining the process, so hubs steps in there and helps.
Since the end of Christmas break almost a month ago, we have been trying different things to get RM to take a bit more responsibility with his schooling. He has issues with forgetting his homework, or, bringing it home and not having a clue what he is supposed to do with it.
Right now we are using a notepad with his class schedule printed on. After each class, RM is to write down what he has not finished, or, if he HAS finished all the work in that class. At the end of the school day, RM signs it and so does his teacher. I have to sign it at home.
In theory it is a good plan. the actions of having to go over the list just before back pack packing time should remind him to bring home subject X y or z. In reality, he still forgets over half of his work at school.
I have only one thing on my agenda this interview, and that is to push for his teacher to allow him to take his back pack into class. This way, instead of writing down what he has to bring home, he can simply say "Oh I still have three spelling questions" and into the bag it goes.
I'd also appreciate it if hubs could got through this interview without spilling coffee on himself. Again

Kids these days
My son is trying to save up money. I have no idea what for and he only has four dollars so far (although I foresee a bit more in the near future what with his three loose teeth)
This afternoon it was only about minus fifteen so the kids were sent out to play while we put away the groceries. One one of the trips out I found my five year old trying to sell real estate.
Seems the neighbor kids have used up most of the Usable snow in their front yard and wanted some of ours (YES!! Please!! Take it ALL) and Mr. Blue Boy was trying to sell the front yard for a dollar.
Sigh

Cupcakes
This year RM's birthday falls on a Monday. He will be turning eight (pauses to take a deep breath)
EIGHT!! holymotherofgawd how did this happen??!
Wait,it's OK, I am fine. So he is turning eight. Thats no big deal...I can handle this!
In any case, we are broker than a toy in the dogs mouth this month and we are not able to do the whole big birthday bash thing for him. It is upsetting to him, but we are taking him bowling and then having cake that he and his Nana will be making together.
But since his actual birthday does fall on a Monday, he is taking cupcakes to share with his school friends,
I am thinking about icing them orange and adding pumpkin like designs on some and icing others orange with white spiderwebs and dollar store spider rings in the center.
Do you have a better decorating idea?

Love the Ocean?
Vision Bedding has some very cool surfer themed bedding available. The market it toward teens, but I think that any adult would find this bedding totally relaxing in a room.

A lot of times with novelty bedding you have a hard time finding accessories, but Vision bedding offers pillows shams, lap blankets and more! Whit Christmas coming very soon, Surfer Bedding would make an teen a happy sleeper!
You child can slip into slumber and dream of curling ten, or being chased by sharks, but for sure, will be the talk of all his friends with his cool now bedding! An added bonus is that the bedding can be customized~

Kids Don't Read Fine Print
Commercials tick me off. Rainbow Man is turning eight in a little over two weeks so he has been watching commercials with a consumerist eye the last month or six. One of the things he has been drooling over is a set of RC airplanes. What he does not understand is the teeny tiny fine print at the bottom of the screen says that it runs for SIX minutes on a charge. SIX! It does not mention what the time line is for how long it takes to charge it, but six minutes is absolutly ridiculous!
Needless to say, it is NOT one of the gifts we bought him!

Kids say the Darndest things!
When we got our puppy Smokey, we told the kids that when she licks them, that is her way of kissing Them.
This morning Smokey was sitting on the door mat taking care of some..personal business. All of a sudden, in an extremely excited voice, Stuperman (3) said "Look Mommy! Smokey is kissing her nakkie!"
I spewed coffee all over the computer and laughed till my sides hurt. I just had to share!
(Nakkie is the word our kids use for their privates. )

Oye Vey
The worst part of my day is, without fail, between five PM and seven thirty PM.
Between those times I have to get off my butt and decide whats for dinner, and I never feel like cooking so even once I decide what we are having its a challenge for me to do it.
Then I have to sit at the table and fight with the children to eat eat eat. Yes even the beans. Just EAT!
Then I have to get the oldest to do his homework, which is pretty hard becuase i cannot read his writing and can only go on what he says has to be done.
Sigh.
bathing the younger two is easy, but getting the seven ear old to wash every part of his body, not just soap up his man parts, is a challenge and a half.
The last half hour of the day is easy, the boys think teeth brushing is a treat not a chore and story time is alwyas relaxing.
But oe, getting from five to seven thirty? Every day it makes me want to scream!

Cat Toys And Boys
We recently bought our kitty one of those cat toys. Where its a wand and an elastic string with odds and ends off the other end? You know, those kind! Oh! Here's a picture. Kinda.

Anyway. See. We bought Tigger this toy. Unfortunately the kids keep trying to play with it, with the cat. But they do not have a delicate touch they get all up in her face and she gets scared - she is a nervous cat at heart- and runs off.
I have tried explaining to the boys how they have to be gentle and I have taken them hand in hand to show them how to dangle the string thing. They just don't get it.
Last night after the boys were safely in bed, My husband had me in tears watching him, the cat and the String Thing playing.

Bagitos! I hate bagitos!
Spyters eat bagitos!
I hate Spyters!
Ahhh the joys of a day at home with the boys! Bagitos by the way are mosquitoes, and If you cannot figure out spyters, there is something wrong with you!
So far the kids have played spiderman which included them trying to climb up the walls. While their attempts to do so were unsuccessful n gaining them height,m they were successful in making mommy laugh!
My elbow for some reason is really sore. I think i might have a bit of exema on the very end of it. I'm making an appointment with my doctor to discuss the fact my body parts fall asleep at the drop of a hat*, so I will ask him about my elbows then.
No really. If i sit on my butt, it goes numb, if i lay in bed, from the heels of my feet to the back of my head, it all falls asleep, turn to the left? that side falls asleep, same if i go to the right. If i sit with my arm resting on the arm of the couch, my arm falls asleep and forget crossing my legs! Thirty seconds of that and both my legs are asleep to the hip! I'm getting sick and tired of being tired in the day becuase i cannot fall asleep because (oh the irony) my body parts are falling asleep!
