Answer me this one simple question : How in the hell did we end up with a Morning Person for a puppy?
Is it becuase she is alone in her crate all night and is just excited to see us in the morning, or is she actually one of those freak of natures known as morning people.
We finally have her so she will settle into her crate on her own around 11:30, and sleep. (I wake her up to potty round three) but come six thirty, when Hubs alarm clock goes off, she is up and HYPER and raring to go!
I think I need to get her a Cartier watch and set it for nine. Then I will patiently explain that before nine there is to be no barking, no jumping, no zooming from room to room and definitely NO chewing on my ears!
Think it will work?

A Contest! sigh. For U.S residents
I love chicken. M favorite is the breast, but thighs, and drumsticks rock as well. Wings not so much, as I feel there is not enough meat on them. Becuase I love chicken so much I cook it a lot. At least three times a week.
I had a lot of problems when I would cook it in my oven. The stuck to my cookie sheet and I had to scrape big chunks of meat off when I was done.
That sucked.
Then one day I was grocery shopping, tinfoil was on my list. I was super excited to see that there was a new one, it's non stick - have you tried it? It's definitely worth the extra few cents it costs. It's so awesome that I have a roll of the old tinfoil still in my closet but I don't use it, I keep buying the non stick kind. :o)
The other day I noticed a web address on my roll of tinfoil and decided to snoop. I ended up here. Unfortunately I cannot enter the contest as I am Canadian, but you people in the states can!

Bad Combination
Our puppy Smokey has fallen in love with our cat Tigger. Unfortunately it is most definitely an unrequited love.
Smokey will cry at the door to our room where Tigger hides, begging any of us to open it so she can play with her new best friend.
Tigger is OK with Smokey. Tolerant, as long as she does not feel cornered, but there is no way she wants to curl up with Smokey.
Sigh. Puppy love is such a difficult stage in life!

Thanksgiving
I am thankful for : my wonderful family.
Let me share some of them with you! We had Thanksgiving dinner at my dad's house this year. There were 25 five or so people there. It's hard to take an accurate count when everyone is everywhere!
One of the best parts was when my brother, his longtime girlfriend and their baby daughter surprised us by showing up. They live a zillion hours away, so this was a very special time!
My precious baby niece. I watched her enter this world, but missed her first steps and first words cus her mean old parents moved far far way from me.
Theses are the mean mean parents of that little cutie up there!
My darling husband!
See that? That little tiny one is my baby son, the one in the middle is my daddy and the guy on the back is my sisters boyfriend. Dad took anyone who wanted ( I did NOT want) for a ride on his bike. He even took my baby niece!
And my sons. My sweet babies. Where would I be without them? This is Son Number Two.
ohhhh Ghosts!
I had forgotten m coffee cup in the garage during my last cigarette and was just coming in the door when the power flickered long enough to shut off lights and reset the clocks.
I was in the kitchen resetting the microwave and stove clocks when Stuperman - my three year old - said "der are ghosts in here shutting off the lights"
No matter how hard I tried to convince him there are no ghosts, just a craptacular power company, he is adamant that a ghost is wandering around playing with the lights.
Sigh.

Three ear olds do not have the dexterity to put a 1/2 cup of coffee grounds into the basket of a coffee pot while balanced precariously on our knee without spilling said coffee grounds all over.
And I mean all over.
Also. Now that the puppy has licked up a bunch of coffee grounds - she is faster than I am- is she going to be super hyper?
Let this be a lesson to all of You:

I wonder if baby slings are more comfortable than the baby carriers that we used when the kids were babies. I always assumed it was becuase I have weak back and shoulder muscles that I had a hard time using the baby carrier.
I tired it front, side and back, and every time I lasted about ten minutes before my back was screaming from the pain of it. One of the blogs I read is in love with baby slings and how comfortable they are, but I wonder are baby sling more comfortable, or do I just have a weak back.
Any one tried both? What do you think?

Im confused. Again
So while I agree whole heartedly about the benefits to crate training a puppy, I'm still not sure I understand what crate training is, exactly.
For example. Am I supposed to tell her go to bed or go to our room or something along those lines when I put her in her crate?
When she flops mid step onto the floor, asleep, am I supposed to pick her up and put her in her crate?
So far we have been putting her in her crate when we go to bed or when we leave the house, but am I supposed to put her into the crate during the day?
This morning she was .. well.. annoying me, with her barking and jumping and general rowdiness, so we played fetch* for a while and I took her potty and then popped her into her crate. She whined once, then laid down and fell asleep.
Am I supposed to put her in the crate like this during the day? Is there a schedule to follow or is it all a play it by ear kind of thing? And how long should I leave her in the crate? Till she wakes up? She has to pee RIGHT after she wakes up so I have to take her out, and it doesn't seem right to put her back in the crate!

Whew
Number one, I cannot believe I was successful in keeping my big mouth shut about the puppy to the children. She was a complete surprise!
I have you, dear interwebs, to thank for that! If I did not have my six billion nine hundred and forty eight blogs to spew puppy excitement all over, I would have simply exploded!
If y'all read BPR, you know we had a very challenging night with Smokey last night. Before bed the Hubs and I agreed he would have puppy night duty on weekends (Friday/Saturday) and I would take her out to potty on week days.
The simple reason for this is that I can nap in the afternoons quite easily at home, while his boss might be a little upset should he curl up on his welding table and take five there!
Last night was so difficult, NONE of us slept, and the baby cried and cried, he was scared of her howl. He has never heard a dog howl before. Tonight, after much discussion, we have decided to let her sleep in her kennel in the garage. It is not a heated garage, but we will put her kennel on some blankies and she has a fleecy blanket and two ragged towels - which I might add were not ragged until he got her sharp little puppy teeth on them yesterday! We are going to also put a blanket over the kennel ( keeping the door uncovered for air flow) to help keep her warm.
I assume we will go to bed around midnight or one, and we will set the alarm for two hours after that to take her out to pee. Them we will set it three hours after that for another potty trip.
then, by the time she has to go again, it will be morning and *hopefully* we will all have had a good sleep!

Picture Day
I hate school Photo Day.
NO really, I do. There is no way I can be there to ensure a nice smile, and that their hair is combed, much less that they don't have lunch spilled down the front of their shirts. And then there is the "Dress Nice" note that is sent home with the kids.
What is their version of dressing nice, becuase mine is not a suit and tie!
I always hated having to get dressed up for pictures when I was in school. I felt I could not do anything fun all day long because OMG what if I mess up my clothes! So when it comes to sending my kids to school for class pictures, I am happy to have them wear a nice, not faded shirt that fits them properly.
That way the look nice - IMO - and still feel that they can play. And besides, If I am the one who has to pay six million four hundred and twenty eight bucks for the actual pictures, I think I should be the only one who gets to say what the boys wear!
