my plan

taking a suggestion from a friend I plan on logging off of the computer, shutting it down and unplugging it tonight at bed time. then I refuse to log back in until a full twenty four hours have passed again.

Part of that is once the plugs are all unplugged I have no idea how to get it all back together.

the other part is in hopes that something as simple as limiting my time online might help control the rampant dizziness I have been dealing with

wish me luck. NOW

Wild Card Wednesday #1

Our Wild card Wednesday topic is Loud in Bed. Trains. we live a fair distance from the nearest train track, yet every night just as I am about to fall asleep, i hear its whoo ooohhh sound and jolt upright. its a psychic train you see. It doesn't matter if its three am on a Saturday night or 12 am on a Tuesday, just as I fall asleep it passes by.

le sigh

A Favorite

Now, I have to be honest. this is a recipie I found online one day after we had a large family gathering I had tons of wilting veggies that needed something done to them!

Sauteed brocoli stems

(cut off the floretts and use tehm in a salad to serve along side this dissh. Yummers!

Ingredients
Large, thick stems from 2 bunches broccoli
Water
Salt, to taste
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Fresh-grated nutmeg, to taste
Fresh-ground black pepper, to taste
Pimiento strips, for garnish, optional

Instructions
Peel stems carefully, then cut them into thin julienne strips about 2 inches long. Place in cold water to crisp 30 minutes in refrigerator. Drain.

Bring pot of salted water to boil. Add broccoli stems, return to a boil and blanch 1 minute. Immediately drain and plunge broccoli into cold water to keep stems crisp and green. Drain again.

To serve, melt butter in saute pan or skillet, add a little nutmeg, then add broccoli. Toss to coat well with butter and cook 1 to 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately in neat piles, garnished with pimiento strips.

I went shopping!

We decided to hit Toys R us, while shopping for birthday gifts for the four turning five year old. And other than the fact that for the first time in my life I wanted, I mean really wanted to buy the children a trampoline ( I didn't they are dangerous and expensive!) it went well!

This first item is a pair of sunglasses/goggle type thing. its a half face mask. if you look really close there are some "prisims" to flip infront of your line of sight to help you see like a bug. Pretty nifty!
This is just a fancy house for bug catching. it will have to stay in the garage, if this summer is anything liek last, they will be catching spiders, and lemme tell you, when those two finally got up the nerver to tell me their "pets" escaped INSIDE the house, I darn near had a heart attack. So yeah. Out side toy. It is kinda cool though, even has night vision!

Blue Boy already has a chalk board, and he loves it, so we bough this one, its about four feet by three feet or something. See that thing on it? thats wrapping paper. Its a regular sized roll. Judge the size for yourself. We are going to hang this one directly on the living room wall for the boy.

I have no idea what this is other then my husband was having a grand ol time playing with it in the store. This is how we buy most of our toys... Sigh.

ahhh. The Zazer! Im not sure how many of you go back and read comments on BPR, but there is a full explanation to the Zazer! there.

They Came!

finally my Zoe mirrors came! I have been waiting for almost three weeks or maybe two? a while, i know that much! and today they finally came! Aren't they beautiful?
I guess my excitement over the perfection that is the mirrors, you would have to know how we are painting our bedroom. But that's best left until i am painting and taking pictures of it. If I try to explain, you will just get confused!

Volcano

Here is an interesting photo:

This is our volcano. I made it out of flour, salt and a few other ingredients. If you want the link to the recipe leave a comment.

When I made it I assumed it would dry in a day or so. A week and a half later it was still not dry. We painted it anyway and started the eruptions.

Baking soda, vinegar and a little red food coloring.

Which by the way WILL stain the rocks so be glad the husband makes you do it in the back yard and not in the front.

It was a lot of fun, and we plan on using the volcano until it rots or falls apart. I suspect the rotting will come first because we didn't dry it properly.

What I have done today

Today I am taking a "break " from blogging. not a real break, obviously, just a half hearted attempt to see if I can stay away. (hint- i wont be able too)

In an effort to stay away, for most of the day I have had the computer turned off (yay me!)

I have:

  • done the dishes

  • Swept the floors

  • folded eight loads of laundry

  • played with the children

  • washed the windows (insides)

  • washed the kitchen floor because two mischievous children made an apple juice pool

  • bathed the same apple juice covered children

  • made an appointment to get my taxes done (eeek)

and now, I am going to go make some buns for supper

hope you are all having a great day!

Bed Bugs

Know what really bugs me? And I mean really REALLY bugs me? The children. Also how they jump on beds and break them.

We want to buy a new bed because, DUH, its broken, and we want to buy the same bed we bought for Rainbow man last year. Can we find it anymore? Nooooo! Of course not.

I want a bed with a solid bottom, in hopes that it lasts a long while, and All we can find are "slat" beds. Jitteryjoe wants to get this bunk bed that isn't a bunk bed, its just a bed up on stilts. Uhm, HELLO? no!

so we are on the hunt for a bed for Blue Boy.

It's NOT going well!

Know any online stores that sell beds? Maybe I can find one online...

Squeaky toys

I like things that make noise. I think that's obvious due to the fact i have three very noisy boys. I like to get them toys that make noise. that old trick of getting kid drums for Christmas to piss of the parents? Won't work at our house.

My kids have a lot of toys that squeak when you squeeze them. One afternoon, a while back, the baby was squeaking it over and over and over and over again and I had a headache. So In a fit of temper i took out the little plastic bit that makes it squeak. It doesn't wreak the toy, just stops the noise.

Completely by accident, or maybe because I just like putting things in my mouth, I realised I can blow on it to make the squeaky noise all by myself.

now its MY turn to annoy the children. It, uhm, doesn't seem to annoy them thought. they seem to love it. I pretend, for the baby that it's because he has "beeped" my nose (that's where you make a beep beep sound when your nose is pushed for all you child haters) the older two get very excited (and loud) in their begging for the squeaker.

I would give it to them, but It's a chocking hazard, I've had a few close calls myself.

And also, its mine and I do not like to share!

Mood Swings

Our weather, and from what I have read int eh news and from other blogs, is having some serious mood swings. Wonder if we need to stage an intervention for dear old mother nature?

Cant you take drugs for mood swings?

I woke up this morning and one of the first things I do every morning is open my curtains to let in the light. I slammed them shut so fast The husband was worried I would break them!

White everywhere. Evil nasty white snow. In the middle of April.

However, by eleven o'clock, most, not all, but most of the evil white had melted into my favorite, mud.

I paid my oldest son to take the kids out to the back yard while I did some much needed cleaning. Right now, I;m just happy that my front door is standing open and we are getting actual natural light without freezing our butts' off!

the weather man has promised me + 18 for this weekend, and he BETTER deliver!

facial flavors!

I made this for icanhavecheeseburger? here's hoping they likes it!

Randomosity

so the other day JJ and I were talking about the weather. its been nasty cold here for way too long (seven months and seven days and counting people!)

anyway, during the course of our conversation we wondered, who, right now, is hated more? The weather man or lawyers?

yea.

I just read that Birkhead is the father of Anna Nicole smiths baby! Yay. out of all the players in that little game, he was the one who seemed to most want the baby because she was a baby not for her inherited millions.

course the millions don't hurt either.

food and sports

do you ever have the thought, when you are scraping the food from the dinner plates into the garbage, that this is such a waste? that so many other people would kill for this? I do , and i feel guilty about it, but even when i package the leftovers up, they just end up sitting in the refrigerator, until they smell or grow mold then i toss them.

we just don't like leftovers.

I'm thinking about putting RM into a sport, however i don't know what one yet. i was considering soft ball, but the training day camp thing is on Blue boys birthday which we cannot change. I wont make rm and JJ miss the party ( they have to have an adult with them) and i wont miss it either.

This parenting/ being an adult thing is freaking hard work.

Does this picture amuse you as much as it does me?
